Is Writing Your Islamic Will Still Lingering on Your To-Do List?

Most Muslims know they need to have a legally valid Islamic Will. To help, we created the comprehensive MuslimMoney Will Kit – available free with all the tools and templates needed.

But knowing what to do and actually doing it are different.

Gathering information, untangling the legal and religious rules, and finding focused time can feel overwhelming.

For too many of us, preparing our Islamic Will remains an important, lingering task causing a background hum of unease.

The Islamic Will Accelerator will change that, insha’Allah

Who is the Accelerator For?

✅ What You’ll Accomplish in the Islamic Will Accelerator

  1. Understand the Essentials Learn the must-know concepts for an Islamic estate plan. For example, demystify the difference between “flowing” assets that pass directly to beneficiaries vs. “frozen” assets that form part of your estate, understandthe four stages of the Islamic inheritance process, and see how these fit within Canadian law. This knowledge bridges the gap between religious obligations and legal requirements, so you can ensure your Will is both Sharia-compliant and legally sound.
  2. Organize Your Key Information: Using the Islamic Will Workbook, you'll compile and organize all the essential information needed for your Will. We guide you to focus only on what’s truly needed: an overview of your assets and debts, identification of your heirs and any intended charitable bequests, and key personal details (like guardians for children). This preparation simplifies what can seem like a mountain of information into a manageable outline.
  3. Draft Your Islamic Will with Confidence:  With guided, step-by-step support, you will begin filling out an official Islamic Last Will and Testament template with your own details. This template has been tailored to satisfy Canadian legal standards and adhere to Qur’anic inheritance rules. As you work through it, the facilitator will clarify any points of confusion – whether it’s how to phrase an executor’s power, how Islamic share proportions work, or how to include a specific bequest within the allowed one-third. By the end of the session, you will have a solid draft of your Will on paper (or saved on your device), reflecting your wishes in line with Islamic guidance.
  4. Leave Prepared – Documents in Hand:  This is a results-driven workshop. You will literally walk out (or conclude the online session) with printouts of your draft Will and key planning pages, neatly organized in a provided legacy folder. More importantly, you’ll have a clear checklist of next steps to make your Will legally binding – such as how to properly sign and witness the document, and tips on safe storage. In short, you’ll finish the Accelerator with your Islamic Will essentially done, needing only the final formalities. The feeling of relief and fulfillment – knowing you have taken care of a religious duty and protected your family – is immense.

❓ Who Should Attend the Accelerator?

This program is designed for Muslim adults of all life stages who want to fulfill their duty of writing a Will and ensure it’s done right. You will benefit from the Islamic Will Accelerator if:

  • You don’t have an Islamic Will yet. Perhaps you’ve been putting it off or didn’t know where to start. This workshop will get it done with you, step by step.
  • You already have a Will, but need to update or Islamify it. Maybe you created a basic will before, or through a lawyer, but you’re not confident it meets Islamic requirements or your current life situation. The Accelerator will help you review and adjust your plan so nothing is overlooked (and you might discover aspects – like the Legacy Letter – that your existing will doesn’t cover).
  • You plan to work with a lawyer on a complex estate. If you have a more complicated situation (business ownership, multiple properties, blended family, etc.), this seminar gives you a strong foundation. You’ll understand the core Islamic rulings and legal concepts, and you’ll come away with organized information and questions to take to your lawyer or advisor. In short, you’ll be far better prepared to collaborate with professionals after this workshop, potentially saving time and legal fees.
  • You are helping a family member (e.g. parents) prepare their Will. The Accelerator can equip you with the knowledge and tools to assist loved ones in creating or reviewing their wills. Many attendees find that after doing their own plan, they feel confident guiding their parents or relatives through similar steps.
🔒A Note on Privacy: Your privacy is paramount – you will never be asked to share personal financial details with the group. All work is done individually; group discussions focus on general concepts applicable to everyone.

What to Expect

Online sessions are typically run live over Google Meet in a small group.

After you sign up, we’ll email you the materials (workbook, will template, etc.) and a checklist of what to have on hand (for example, a list of your assets and debts, names of family members, etc.).

During the session, our facilitator will share a presentation and walk everyone through each step. You’ll have time to fill in your documents on your own device (we recommend using a computer or tablet during the call).

You can ask questions via chat or audio, and we’ll pause at key points to troubleshoot common issues.

By the end of the online workshop, you should have your will draft completed just like in the in-person session.

After the session, you can print your documents for signing. We’ll also send a follow-up email with any additional notes and reminders on finalizing your will.

‣
What to Expect

An in-person accelerator is ideal if you prefer face-to-face learning and live in an area where we’re hosting an event. In-person public have the benefit of that workshop atmosphere – you’ll be in a focused environment with other attendees, plus you get physical handouts and on-site support directly.

Our next in-person Islamic Will Accelerator session is being planned – you can reserve your spot or join the waitlist now.

These sessions are usually held on a weekend and may be hosted in partnership with a local mosque or community group.

‣

🕌 Bring the Islamic Will Accelerator to Your Mosque or Group

Do you want to empower your community to prepare their Wills together?

The Islamic Will Accelerator can be booked as a half-day seminar at your local mosque, community center, or organization. This is a great option for communities or families who want to host a collective workshop.

What to Expect: We will work with you to customize the session to your audience. Typically, the seminar runs about 3 hours (e.g. a weekend morning or afternoon), with a short break. We provide all the instruction and materials – you provide the venue and the attendees.

Attendees will bring some basic information (we’ll send a prep list beforehand), and our facilitator will guide everyone through the process step by step, just as described above.

By the end, each person or couple will have their draft wills prepared. We encourage Q&A and make the session interactive, but also ensure privacy for individual work.

Hosting an Accelerator session can jump-start dozens of people in fulfilling this Sunnah and legal requirement. It’s especially beneficial for communities – people feel motivated when they see their friends and family all tackling this task together.

It turns what was often a long-postponed chore into a collective achievement.

Plus, your mosque or organization will be facilitating an act of worship and responsibility.

FAQ

‣
Will I have a fully legal, signed Will by the end?

You'll leave with a completed draft Will, printed and ready. Making a will legally binding requires proper signing with two valid witnesses after the session (we'll explain exactly how). The goal is to have the document fully prepared for that final step.

‣
What if my situation is complex (business owner, multiple properties, blended family)?

This session is ideal preparation. You'll organize your information and understand the core structure, making any needed consultation with a specialized lawyer much more focused, efficient, and potentially less costly.

‣
Is the pre-workshop information gathering truly necessary?

Yes. Bringing the requested core information (even as rough notes) is key to actively participating and drafting your Will during our limited time.
